It's hard to keep skiing abstinence in check during the summer months. Fortunately, there are indoor slopes you can visit. Here are some of the best in the world.

World's biggest

The 80,000sq m Wanda Ski Park in China officially opened in summer 2017, the world's largest snow covered indoor park. Wanda Ski Park has two chairlifts and six slopes, the longest of which is 500m. The indoor slope is in the city of Harbin, often called “Ice City”. Temperatures can fall to 30 degrees below zero in winter in Harbin so stepping into Wanda Ski Park can feel like coming in from the cold.

World's longest indoor piste

The AlpinCenter in Bottrop, Germany, boasts the world's longest indoor ski slope. The AlpinCenter opened in 2001 and the 640m piste attracts thousands of ski lovers each year. Experienced skiers can practice here to improve, and beginners can learn to ski. Visitors don’t need any prior experience as there is a ski lift conveyor that takes you to the top of the slope very easily, instead of a chairlift.

Skiing in the Middle East

The skiing pearl of the Middle East is located in Dubai. More specifically, inside the Mall of the Emirates. The indoor area consists of 22,500sq m of snow that is kept at a constant -1 to -2 degrees all year. Ski Dubai consists of five slopes with differing degrees of difficulty, the longest of which is 400m. The Avalanche Café can be found in the middle of the slope where skiers can rest with a cup of hot chocolate.

Swing loose in Spain

Madrid SnowZone offers ski loving visitors to the Spanish capital the chance to strap on some skis. The indoor slope is located in the Madrid Xanadú shopping mall. There's a chairlift, a tow lift and two slopes. One is 250m long X 55m wide and aimed at experienced skiers, the other is shorter and more suitable for beginners.

Cost: A lift pass costs €22 for two hours, €30 for four hours and €36 for a day pass. Opening hours: Mon-Sun 9am to 10pm.

Snow Valley

Belgian indoor slope

Snow Valley in Belgium has three indoor ski slopes. The biggest piste is 350m long and aimed at experienced skiers, the second has loads of obstacles and jumps for freestylers and the third is a 100m training slope for beginners. There's also an a la carte restaurant here with views of the slopes.

Skiing in Lithuania

The indoor Snow Arena in the Lithuanian town of Druskininkai, two hours from Vilnius, opened in 2011. The piste is 460m long. There are two lifts for experienced skiers and a conveyor lift for beginners. Skiers can rest and get a bite to eat at the Aero Gallery restaurant by the top of the chairlift. Snow Arena also has a terrain park where skiers and snowboarders can perform tricks.

Did you know?
That SNØ Winter Park is set to open in Oslo in 2020. The 40,000sq m park will have a 505m long X 100m wide piste.
